Rain slowed down...

Getting some sun today. Better than our friends to the North in Seattle where it seems snow is the norm. That is NOT normal. Here in our high Sierra mountains a lot of snow has fallen. The ski resorts are ectatic. It's no fun skiing on man-made snow. Need a parka to keep warm and/or a poncho to stay dry. Not many brave souls do tent camping in the Winter. When you do a warm sleeping bag is really needed. Somthing to keep you warm is a nice fire burning safely in a fire pit. Cooking is easy on the right camp stove. Most stoves are easy to use even in the cold.
Fishing is popular at the lower elevation lakes. When a spinning reel wears out a new one is essentioal to catching that next fish. It's always a good thing to have an extra rod on hand.
We need something to wipe our hands after baiting the hook or taking that great catch off the hook. You always feel better with dry hands when handling the gear necessary to catch that elusive big one.

Getting closer to the fun in the outdoors...

Here in Northern California we are anticipating rain for the first time in a month and a half or more. We had a little during that time but not enough to really get excited about.  Areas here around the San Francisco Bay, the seasonal rain fall is only about one third of average. Average is only about 15 ot 20 inches a year. The fire danger is high for January. This rain on the way will be welcome.
Camping will be safer with the wet conditions. Less chance of wild fire. Something we here in California worry about every year. More water means better fishing. Better fishing means night fishing that needs the help of a lantern to give light for baiting the hook and removing the fish from the line.
We are looking forward to the warm nights and days ahead for camping and fishing fun.
Good towels for keeping clean and dry made of micro-fiber. Many uses for all cleaning needs.

    Fun in the Sun...

Here in California we sometimes, between earthquakes, feel guilty about our countrymen in the North and NorthEast having such bad weather. We bask in Sunshine while they bundle up. Here in Northern California we haven't had any rain or snow to speak of. December was the third driest Winter month on record. That is 150 years or so since records have been kept. Not to worry though, we have enough water in the reservoirs to last, but only if we have a wet Winter this year. The only thing to worry about is the fire danger that goes with dry conditions. Camp stoves are the solution to that problem. They are safe and easy to use. Battery powerd lanterns are safe, too. A great part of camping is the camp fire. Just keep it small and in an approved fire-ring. Being carefull goes without saying. We sometimes spend the coldest months in the Southwest.

Keep it clean and dry here.
