Off Road at Hollister State Park California

Some of the activity at the Hollister Hills off road rally put on by 4wd parts on Sunday July 22, 2012. We took our Jeep to try it out on the course at the park. Made it through the entire course and got our raffle tickets for later in the day. A good BBQ was offered and consumed. Fun checking out all the neat rigs. Lot's of fun people to visit with and talk "off road adventures" with.

Sad to say we had more fun off roading in Colorado and Utah, as well as Arizona and Southern California.
Ran through many back roads in Death Valley. In January, of course. Went down to the banks of the Green River near Moab, Utah. Checked as many back roads as we could find near Aspen. Searched for Native American ruins in many parts of Arizona. Even looked around the back roads near Las Vegas.

Didn't win at the raffle but still had fun overall.

Fishing Fun in the Sun

This time of year is pretty hot here in Northern California. But cool places to fish and camp can be found. We would go to the high Sierra lakes and rivers to get out of the heat of the Valley. Back packing to the highest lakes that weren't accessible by car. That is a lot of fun because you can get to see more wildlife and some awesome scenery. The trail for the most part, are well marked and well used. Getting lost is not an option. A good plan is to check forest service maps and wilderness area maps for locations of camp areas. When an area is found that is interesting check with rangers for rules of access. A fire permit is needed in practically all areas. Even a permit to tell rangers how many hikers are in some wilderness areas. There may be restrictions on the number allowed in some areas.

Have a good time and remember to let someone know where you will be going and if you change your mind. Safety is the main concern in the high country.

A good source of camping, picnicking and household items is available at Trasan.
